Wafer Messenger featured on Newsmonkey

Niels, our marketing strategist, got interviewed by Newsmonkey about the latest Wafer Free Call feature.

The article is certainly great to read in French, but we are also publishing here it in English for all international readers to enjoy:

Forget Whatsapp, Wafer Messenger allows you to call all your contacts, anytime, anywhere, for free.

Competing with Whatsapp, Messenger, Skype and Snapchat might seem like a foolish idea.

It is however the challenge a Luxembourgish startup decided to take on last September. Since then, the messaging application has continued to evolve: after the introduction of highly personalised messages, you can now call anyone on any platform for free, provided that you have an internet connection.

Back to September 2017. Niels Hoorelbeke, a Belgian national who migrated to Luxembourg four years prior, is proud to announce the release of Wafer Messenger for iOS and Android. Together with his colleagues, he created an app that is designed to make life difficult for the big players in the world of messaging apps. An extraordinary big challenge.

However, in 2018, this challenge no longer seems unfathomable.

Since its release, Wafer has over 430.000 users across the world and has had the honour to be featured as ‘Startup of the Week’ by Forbes magazine.

‘Wafer does really well in India, Brazil and in Turkey. We’re also getting plenty of downloads in Morocco and Algeria’. And in Belgium? ‘The European market is much more diverse and conservative, which makes it naturally more difficult to get a foothold. We are however starting to see some positive results, especially in the BENELUX, a region we are closely connected to’.

So what makes Wafer so special? Why should we abandon our traditional messaging apps for Wafer?

First of all, because it’s more complete. You can, for example, send messages in which you can combine up to six types of media (sketch, text, stickers, photo, audio, video).

Niels is enthusiastic: ‘We are getting plenty of positive feedback and our research has shown that our users are extremely creative and understand all features very well’. To top that all off, Wafer also gives you the possibility to create groups including up to 256 people.

Wafer Free Call.

This is just the beginning. A few weeks ago, Wafer enabled their users to call all their contacts for free. This feature is the first of its kind in the sense that it allows Wafer users to VoIP call everyone in their address book across all platforms (Android to iOS and vice versa) and on all kind of devices (smartphone, tablet or computer).

The best thing about it: the recipient doesn’t even need to have Wafer installed in order to receive the call.

The feature, named ‘Wafer Free Call’, guarantees an exceptional, unrivalled call quality which is at least 5 times better than a regular phone call.

Although they are not the first to build upon the VoIP technology, Wafer distinguishes itself with a unique drive to ‘lift all barriers in the digital messaging space’.

Say goodbye to the current compatibility problems: ‘Not everyone has every messaging app (Skype, Whatsapp, Messenger, Snapchat, Viber, Telegram, Wechat, ...), with Wafer, you can reach anyone, any time’.

Do not hesitate to test it out. In any case Niels promises us many more exciting new features that will hit the market soon.
